One of the first songs I wrote. To the tune of Morning has broken. I was part of a Boy Band at the time, though we preferred to be known as “Scraggs”, a mash up of our initials.

This song was not accepted by Steve and Chris. Cannot think why!

THE SADDEST TALE EVER TOLD

My voice has broken
Oh what shall I do
It happened last year
When I was too ...

Drunk to remember
Where my girl’s hand was
I did myself dismember
When I sat on her nail

“My nail is broken”
She said in a hurt voice
I replied in a high voice,
“I’m not one of the boys”

She said “What a pity
Now we can’t get married
And finish this ditty
Right here and now”

My heart is broken
There is not much left to break
My credentials are in pieces
All for her sake

So I do warn you
When you go courting
Take care what you do
Or end up like ME!
