SHOWPIECE
Dressed in silk so elegant and neat
She floats down the street on a cushion of air
Her hairdo perfect and a figure complete
She walks with a purpose but no-one knows where
Where does she come from
What does she think about
Who really knows her
What is it all about
Does she only want to live as a showpiece
She’s semi-detached from the world today
And seems to me like a Mystery Miss
I see her at work but never at play
Though being with her remains but a wish
She lives out a life that’s just skin deep
Passing along on a silver cloud
But what does she dream of when she’s asleep
No longer being part of a crowd
Where does she come from
What does she think about
Who really knows her
What is it all about
Does she only want to live as a showpiece
Living her part in the present tense
I wonder what she did in her past
Her parents’ child in some sort of sense
Now nobody’s girl in nobody’s class
Where does she come from
What does she think about
Who really knows her
What is it all about
Does she only want to live as a showpiece
Tell me why she wants to live as a showpiece
Why does she want to live as a showpiece
