MAGIC WORDS
Story of a Christmas party.
How many people are there and what are their names.
Some are obvious, others less so.
Hint: reading the story slowly and out loud may help.
Team work makes a difference!
“Mary Deer, you need to get some Punch” boomed Betty.
“Miss Deer, Dad has asked for more of your delicious mince pies, please” said Joy.
All systems go at the Christmas party in the village hall. Everyone just inside, raucous revelry. Mary keeping the food, drink and fun replenished.
Miss Deer considered the requests. One was more of a demand. Joy won the day, or maybe that moment.
“Good job I made plenty” said Mary. “Let’s carry them round the tables”.
They passed the Games table. Charades, with some manic mimes for old TV shows.
“Hi-dee-hi” guessed Tony, with the inevitable “Ho-dee-ho” response.
Everyone was a victor, making their mark.
Mince pies were gratefully gobbled. Pizza proved popular. Judy had ordered delicious doner kebabs.
“Mary, Punch, and Judy, more sausages” brayed Betty.
Joy approached. “You look tired. Would you like a mince pie and tea?”
Betty drew breath, then relaxed. “Thank you, how kind”.
A church choir sang of the festive anniversary, while Scrabble players puzzled anagrams.
A distant chime alerted Mary. “Is a bell ringing? Okay, it’s Christmas Eve Carol service”.
Betty approached Mary. “What mouth-watering mince pies, thank you. Joy has offered to help me fill the punch bowls from the toby jug. Then we three can kneel on cushions and scoff sausages. I lean towards those magic words, please and thank you.”
